News Update Ep1: Regional Director’s Message as FSPN Africa Celebrates 5th Anniversary
How time flies! It has been 5 impact-working years!!!
Today we celebrate FSPN Africa’s 5th Anniversary, #FSPNAfrica @5. I’m struggling to get to terms with this fact. This reminds me of how we tirelessly and diligently worked to build this startup into what it is today! A Regional Organization. Burning the midnight oil, & the never-ending weekend meetings to get the house in order was never easy but proved very necessary. Cheers to the milestones already and importantly massive global donors’ support and local partnerships.
Already excited about the next steps and what the future looks like for this Great institution, FSPN Africa which is proving from time to time to be everything #MamaAfrica desperately needed through its integrated programming approach, digital adoption, and dynamic nature to ensure we adapt to the new challenges.
In commemorating this year of #FSPNAfrica@5, We commit to achieving one (1)million smallholder farmers’ direct reach through our combined programs across the region including; Kenya, Tanzania Rwanda, and Uganda through our established partnerships (Of course we are #PartnershAgainstHunger) as we work towards the Sub Saharan Africa full coverage.
Findings of the state of the climate in Africa 2019 report (WMO, 2019), indicate that the changing climatic conditions in the last decades have increased the threat to human life, food and water security, and socioeconomic development in the region and Africa as a whole.
In his own words, General Petteri Taalas, the secretary general of the WMO, reiterated “Climate change is having a growing impact on the African continent, hitting the most vulnerable hardest, and contributing to food insecurity, population displacement and stress on water resources”
The situation is projected to worsen with increasing temperatures and foresees extreme cases of food insecurity and malnutrition.
Can we revolutionize the Sub-Saharan Hunger and Climate Change crisis in a day? Of course not. It takes collaboration, planning, and pooling of resources to melt down these challenges. Through our strategic plan, we are rolling out programs whose nexus is to build the capacity of smallholder farmers to practice climate-smart and nutrition-sensitive agriculture, produce more food, access more formal markets, digitally access agriculture information, and halt the misery of hunger, and poverty and its negative impacts.

From 20th to 24th March 2023, in Germany, we took part in the launch of the #HeatlhyDiets4Africa program at Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany that focuses on accelerating the transition to sustainable, healthy, and inclusive food systems!
